Description

Guy Colwell Inner City Romance Comics #1 Complete 40-page Story and Cover Original Art (Last Gasp, 1972). The complete "Choices" forty-page story, plus the painted cover (minus the lettering) makes up this massive Underground lot. The story of three prison inmates celebrating their release, "Choices" is one of the most admired and poignant "slice of life" comic stories ever created, and is widely considered an Underground Comix masterpiece. Artist/writer Guy Colwell was himself an inmate, sentenced to two years for draft resistance during the turbulent Vietnam era of the late 1960s. His experiences there formed the basis for his Inner City Romance series, and this first issue cemented his reputation as a socio-political artist. Although Colwell is Caucasian, his sympathetic depiction of African-Americans had many fans convinced he was Black. And speaking of fans, count Robert Crumb among the many who admire and collect his art. This is one of the all-time greats, and Heritage is very pleased to offer this complete historic work. The cover is in mixed media on bristol and measures 15" x 18", while the interior pages feature image areas of approximately 9.75" x 14.25". In Excellent condition. Included is a copy of the printed comic. From the Albert Morse Collection.
