Description

Alex Raymond Jungle Jim Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 6-23-35 (King Features Syndicate, 1935). It's hard to believe now, but for a short time Raymond had two full-page Sundays running concurrently when Flash Gordon and companion "topper" strip Jungle Jim each went to a full page in February, 1935. Raymond produced 17 full page Flash Gordon and 17 full page Jungle Jim Sundays in 1935, all done in his brief and extremely sought-after dry brush period. After about four months, the two strips merged back into a single page. The strip offered here is the very last one of the Jungle Jim full-pagers. Originals from that brief period almost never change hands, and it is not known if all of them even still exist! In fact we have only ever offered one before. This one is from Al Williamson's personal collection. In it, Jim leads a forward assault on Cho Fang's forces to allow Mike and Joan to place a dynamite charge. An exciting Sunday, with a great cliffhanger! It was created in ink over graphite on illustration board with an image area of 15.5" x 24", matted to 21.5" x 30". Signed in the last panel. The logo panel is a stat. The board is lightly toned; otherwise, in Excellent condition. From the Al Williamson Collection.

More Information: EDIT: Added detailed information regarding when the two Sunday features split and re-merged.
