Description

Frank King Gasoline Alley Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (Chicago Tribune, 1922). Skeezix made his first appearance just two years prior to this Sunday episode. Gasoline Alley was the first comic strip to actually age all of the characters in real-time, and here, Skeezix appears as a two-year-old who is just learning to talk. Created in ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20" x 25.75". Signed by King in the last panel. The watercolor work is only partial as it was intended merely for the printer to follow -- typically the first appearance of an item is colored, as a guide. Toned, with pinholes in the margins, minor edge rips, tape pulls in the top corners, and moderate soiling. There is tear on the left of the third tier, and there is discolored tape on the top right. Shadow box framed to an overall 23.5" x 28.75", and in Very Good condition.
