Description

Robert Williams Zap Comix #4 "Dormasintoria" Complete 4-Page Story Original Art (Apex Novelties, 1971). After going solo for Zap Comix issues #0 and 1, Robert Crumb invited several other cartoonists to join him. Robert Williams was, at the time, best know as one of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's staff artists, but he obviously had a much deeper subversive streak in him, as seen in this, his first contribution to Zap. It's four pages that are cosmic as all get out, featuring a naughty explanation for the "Big Bang" theory of the creation of the universe. So that's how it happened, eh? Alrighty then! The art has incredible detail, especially page three's mechanical works, but this was just the tip of the iceberg for Williams, who would go on to contribute to every subsequent issue of Zap. It's in ink and white ink/paint on board, with an average per-page image area of 6.75" x 10". All four pages are matted and framed together for an overall size of 22" x 32". Excellent condition. Two pages of the art are featured in the book Underground Classics: The Transformation of Comics Into Comix, by James Danky and Denis Kitchen. From the Eric Sack Collection.
