Description
George Evans Crime SuspenStories #23 Cover Re-Creation Original Art and Reading Copy (1978). In Evans' fine-art reconstruction of his classic EC Comics image of 1954, philandering Jerry Wheeler strangles his wife with a jack-handle. This pitch-perfect re-creation ideally captures the essence of the published cover, omitting the logotype and EC-blurb boilerplate to emphasize the horror of the moment. Commissioned for a 1978 Collectors' Showcase Auction, and preserved since then in a near-pristine state. This beautiful color rendition of one of the most iconic EC covers will also be published as the cover art for Roger Hill's fanzine EC Fan-Addict #6, which is being co-edited by EC super-scholar Grant Geissman. Signed within the art area, and autographed additionally at lower margin. Ink and wet-brush watercolors on fine-grain illustration board. Image area of 13.5" x 19.75". Excellent condition, with light marginal spotting/toning. Accompanied by a reading copy of the issue.From the Roger Hill Collection.
