Description

Lee Elias Chamber of Chills #23 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1954). The things nightmares are made of was Chamber of Chills stock-in-trade in the early 1950s, with this cover standing as a perfect example, evoking our primal fears at the re-animation of corpses. Harvey mainstay Lee Elias captured this horror in gruesome detail on this cover published a few months before the formation of the Comics Code Authority, which regulated "graphic" images and content in the comics industry, bringing an end to the spine-chilling series three issues later. Ink over graphite on Bristol board mounted to 12.75" x 17.5" cardboard with a stat reproduction of the logo/header at an image area of 10.5" x 15.75". Slight toning, loose "A straight line to horror is .... HEARTLINE!" text paste-up (shown in place on cover image, included), art paste-up along the bottom, the art is trimmed along the top edge, marginal notes and spot staining, whiteout touch-ups, with light handling wear. In Very Good condition.
From the Roger Hill Collection.
