Description

Trader Mickey Pair of Mickey Mouse and Native Chief Production Drawings (Walt Disney, 1932). This pair of hilarious original production drawings features Mickey Mouse and the African Chief from Trader Mickey (1932), a black-and-white theatrical short directed by Burt Gillett. In this classic early Disney adventure, Mickey and Pluto, traveling with a boat full of trinkets to sell in Africa, are quickly captured by cannibals. Fortunately, their captors have a fondness for music, giving Mickey a chance to turn the situation around! These production drawings, seen near the 4:29 timestamp, depict a particularly comedic moment as Mickey interacts with the chief cannibal, who has humorously fashioned a lady's corset into a crown. The chief has just swallowed a harmonica, and Mickey, realizing an opportunity, pokes him in the stomach, producing an unexpected tune- and a ticklish reaction! The crisp, fluid animation was crafted by David Hand, Les Clark, Norm Ferguson, and Ben Sharpsteen, showcasing the expressive rubber-hose animation of the era. Illustrated in graphite on 12-field, 2-peghole animation paper, these rare drawings are numbered 25 and 26. They exhibit edge wear from production use and age-related toning but remain in vintage Good condition- a great find for collectors of Golden Age Disney animation!
