Description

Marvel Mystery Comics #9 (Timely, 1940) CGC VG 4.0 Cream to off-white pages. Timely/Atlas/Marvel has always been about epic battles, but the Human Torch and Sub-Mariner's tussles in the day took the cake! One such matchup began in this issue and took two issues to complete! It's the most valuable issue in the illustrious run, outside of #1 (when the title was just Marvel Comics), and there's good reason -- an Overstreet "scarce" and Gerber "7", a classic Alex Schomburg cover, and the battle royal between two superheroes, plus story art by Bill Everett, Carl Burgos, and Paul Gustavson. CGC notes, "1 piece of tape on interior cover." Overstreet 2011 VG 4.0 value = $8,400. CGC census 2/12: 1 in 4.0, 14 higher.
