Description
Amazing-Man Comics #5 (#1) Mile High pedigree (Centaur, 1939) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. So much going for this exceptional offering! It's from Edgar Church's legendary collection, the Mile High copy of a very scarce book, and, true to its pedigree, it's tied for the highest grade yet certified by CGC. Difficult to find in any grade -- both Overstreet and The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books rate it "rare" -- and if you are lucky enough to find a copy, it's just about impossible to find it in high grade. To date, besides the two 9.4 copies, just one other, a VF- 7.5 copy has earned a grade higher than VG+ 4.5. Incredibly, among the total of 16 unrestored copies certified to date by CGC, 12 have grades of VG- 3.5 or lower! It's the first issue of the Centaur title and has the origin and first appearance of A-Man, the Amazing Man, Iron Skull, Miniature Man, and The Cat-Man. Bill Everett, known more for his Golden Age Sub-Mariner artwork, provided the cover and interior art, as did other Timely greats Carl Burgos, Tarpe Mils, and Paul Gustavson. Overstreet 2013 NM- 9.2 value = $33,000. CGC census 2/14: 2 in 9.4, none higher.CGC Grader Notes:
