Description

Detective Comics #64 Double Cover (DC, 1942) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages. It's the first appearance of the Boy Commandos, drawn by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, and we've often thought that most surviving copies are probably so beat-up just because the story was so entertaining and demanded to be re-read. The kid group immediately struck a chord with readers. As Jim Steranko drolly observed, "By some phenomenal coincidence each member of the group personally represented one of America's wartime allies." The boys would get their own quarterly title within months (while continuing to appear in Detective). The dramatic Batman cover is by Jerry Robinson. CGC notes, "1st cover 8.0, interior cover 8.5." Overstreet 2009 VF 8.0 value = $2,679; VF/NM 9.0 value = $4,690. CGC census 1/10: 1 in 8.5, none higher. From the Pinnacle Hill Collection.
