Barry Smith Conan the Barbarian #2 House Ad Illustration Original Art (Marvel, 1970). This striking half-page ad was created to run in Marvel comics with a November to December cover date. It was promoting the second issue of Marvel's hot new title, an adaptation of Robert E. Howard's famed pulp fantasy barbarian to a comic book format. Conan would revitalize the "barbarian genre", leading to spin-off titles, imitations, and even spoofs from Thongor to Cerebus the Aardvark. But there can be only one... Conan the Barbarian! Crafted in ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 6". It is Plexiglas front framed to 14.25" x 10.25".
