Description

Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Drawing Sequence of 7 (Walt Disney, 1959). "A most gratifying day." Maleficent tells her raven Diablo, locking the door to Prince Phillip's cell. This amazing sequence of seven 16 field 3-peghole animation drawings give us a rare look at the Mistress of Evil with a genuine smile. The drawings are rendered in graphite and all except the last features a full-figure Maleficent with her raven. You can find them at roughly 1:04:22 to 1:04:26. They are noted as 3, 15, 29, 47, 55, 99, and A-101 in the bottom right. Two of them have circles, indicating they are key frames. These likely would have been drawn by supervising animator Marc Davis (1913 - 2000). Five of the drawings have the initials C.W. in the top right, possibly attributing them to assistant animator Chuck Williams. Maleficent ranges from about 5.5'' x 9.25'' to 5.75'' x 9.75'' while the cell door measures 2'' x 8.75''. There is light age-related toning with minor edge and handling wear. This includes small stains, faint creases, small tears, and light superficial wrinkles. Very Good condition overall for this incredible vintage sequence!
