Description

Fantasia "Dance of Hours" Ostrich Ballerina Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). "We see first a group of dancers in costumes to suggest the delicate light of dawn." Presented here is a lovely original animation drawing featuring one of the supporting ostrich ballerinas from the first movement of Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours" segment. A grand musical masterpiece released in 1940, Fantasia consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music with the 4-movement "Dance of the Hours" occurring sixth and set to Danza delle ore the third act of Amilcare Ponchielli's opera La Gioconda. Standing in fifth position mid-pliƩ, the blue-bowed ensemble dancer can be seen warming up on the stairs near the 1:38:12 timestamp having been awoken in the morning light by prima ballerina Madame Upanova. Rendered in graphite she has a full-figured character size of 2.75" x 5.25" with a blue pencil note near her feet on the 16 field 5-peghole animation sheet which has been trimmed slightly to an overall size of 13.25" x 11.75". With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, some peghole reinforcement, and the noted trimming, overall this graceful dancer is in Very Good condition.
