Description

Dudley Do-Right with Snidely Whiplash and Horse Scene Cel on Production Background (Jay Ward, c. 1970s). Ever-cheerful Canadian Mountie Dudley Do-Right keeps smiling even though bad guy Snidely Whiplash has a bomb... and is standing on Horse's Mountie hat! Gasp! Actually, it looks as if Dudley is about to bail on the scene, leaving Horse to bring Snidely in, but we digress; what we have here is a brilliant hand-inked, hand-painted Scene cel, originally sold at the Dudley Do-Right Emporium which located at 8200 Sunset Boulevard (just down the street from Jay Ward Productions). The Emporium was run by Jay Ward and his family, and was open from 1971 until 2005. This is an early Scene cel of Dudley and company, placed on a trimmed Jay Ward hand-painted gouache on lightweight board production background from an unspecified program. Most of the Jay Ward Studio Production cels were thrown away to make space at the small studio. To meet the demand of collectors, Scene cels like this were created and sold at the Emporium, and this is one of the best and hardest to find of the Dudley and Snidely Scene cels; we've offered only one in the past, and that one was without a background. This great image is in a Jay Ward Productions mat with an opening of approximately 9" x 7" with an overall size of 13" x 10". This is a very clean mat; the cel setup is in Fine condition with very light handling wear.
