Description
The Art of Jay Ward Productions Cover and Title Page Drawings and Inked Cels Group of 6 (Jay Ward/Oxberry Press, 2013). Annie Award-winning animator and director Darrell Van Citters has been a lifelong fan of Jay Ward's television cartoons, as well as a fan of UPA cartoons of the 1950s (with overlapping artists working for both studios). His excellent book The Art of Jay Ward Productions was the source of some of the items in this special auction, including the items created by Darrell Van Citters and inker Kunimi Terada as seen in this lot. The front cover for the book's dust jacket includes five new images of Rocky, Dudley Do-Right, Sherman and Mr. Peabody, Bullwinkle, and Aesop telling his son a new fable. The inked images for all five front cover images and the original graphite and blue pencil drawings for the Dudley Do-Right and Aesop and Son images, as well as the drawing and inked cel for the large image of Bullwinkle that adorns the book's title page, are included in this extremely cool group. The drawing of Dudley Do-Right has an image size of approximately 4" x 4.5" while the Aesop and Son drawing measures 5.5" x 4.5", both drawing on sheets of 12 field animation paper. The Aesop and Son inked image measures 4" x 3.25" on a 12 field cel. The inked cover images of Bullwinkle (4" x 5"), Sherman (1.75" x 2.5") and Mr. Peabody (1.25" x 2"), Dudley Do-Right (2" x 2"), and Rocky (2.75" x 2.5") are all inked on a single 16 field cel. The Title Page drawing of Bullwinkle measures 7" x 5.75", and his tossed-up top hat measures 2.25" x 1.5", and the inked image measures the same. All cel images are hand-inked. We've included color copies of the book's front cover and the Bullwinkle title page for comparison purposes. The drawings and cels are in Very Good to Fine condition with light handling wear.From the Darrel Van Citters Collection.
