Description
Charlotte's Web Production Pan Background (Hanna-Barbera, 1973). "Some pig!" Ray Aragon, Bob Singer, and Paul Julian were the Art Directors on this popular Hanna-Barbera animated film. It opened in New York City and featured music by the renowned Sherman Brothers of Mary Poppins and Jungle Book fame. While originally released to modest success, the film developed a devoted following over the years and ultimately became one of the best-selling VHS tapes of 1994. This is a striking hand-painted pan production background of Wilbur's pigpen which can be seen at the 29:55 mark in the film and again at 33:14. It is painted in gouache on 39.25" x 10.5" watercolor background paper. SEQ 3 BG 92 is written on the upper right border and 97-4 in the upper left. It's a magnificent painting in its own right and the perfect accompaniment to a Wilbur production cel. The piece has been folded in two places leaving bends in the paper and slight creasing which has had very little affect on the art. It exhibits edge wear, handling, pinholes and few tiny scratches.
