Guillaume Sorel Les Diaboliques, The Crimson Curtain Illustration Original Art (2007). The exhibition Guillaume Sorel, the Bewitched Illustration presented in 2007 at the Cherbourg Museum celebrated the bicentenary of the birth of Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly. This magnificent illustration entitled The Crimson Curtain is the third of the 10 illustrations produced for this exhibition. The Crimson Curtain is the first short story from Les Diaboliques (1847) in which Barbey d'Aurevilly portrays the woman as superior and amoral, elusive and threatening. Incredible aesthetic from Guillaume Sorel, who draws his inspiration from the fantastic where we perceive a dark and desperate romanticism. Le Rideau Cramoisi est la première nouvelle des Diaboliques (1847) où Barbey d'Aurevilly dépeint la femme comme un être supérieur et amoral, insaisissable et menaçant. Incroyable esthétique de Guillaume Sorel, qui puise son inspiration dans le fantastique, où l'on perçoit en filigrane un romantisme sombre et désespéré.
