Description

Jean Giraud (Moebius) Starwatcher Universe Illustration Original Art on and Poster (AEDENA/Starwatcher Graphics, c. 1980s). Moebius combines timeless craft with visionary imagery in this lithographic pairing. The drawing was made directly on polished limestone using greasy crayons and tusche. A chemical etch fixed the design, making the drawn areas hold ink while untouched surfaces resisted it. Stone records the most delicate hair-line, perfectly aligned with Moebius' razor-precise line. The resulting print shows how well a centuries-old, demanding process can serve a modern, futuristic vision. Moebius rarely turned to the lithographic stone, and this image was never produced in a numbered edition. Instead, it survives as a signed open-edition poster, created outside the large-format, numbered Starwatcher prints. While clearly tied to the Starwatcher cycle, it was not reproduced in the 1986 book. Rendered in ink over graphite on lithographic stone slab with an image area of 13.25" x 17.25" with a plastic overlay over the image. The poster measures 12.75" x 16.5" and is signed by Moebius. The lot weighs about 41 pounds. In Excellent condition.
