Description

Jean Giraud (Moebius) Far West "Frank et Jérémie" Story Page 5 Original Art (Éditions Mireille, 1957). A beautiful and rare final page from one of the very first comic stories by Jean Giraud, then barely 18 years old, published in the pages of the Western magazine Far West. Even at this early stage, Giraud was already demonstrating a precocious talent for layout and dynamic action scenes. One can also see the influence of his mentor, the Belgian master Jijé, creator of the cowboy hero Jerry Spring in 1954, in Giraud's depictions of both human and animal figures. The page is crafted in ink and ink wash over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 14.5". Whiteout touch-ups. Panel 7, a character in Panel 8, and all descriptive texts are original paste-ups. The lightly toned board shows a faint visible horizontal fold line between the second and third tiers, and pinholes in the corners. Light handling and corner wear. Signed and dated in the second-to-last panel. Of particular interest, the back of the board features pencil sketches and a short text signed "Moebius". In Very Good condition.
