Description
Combat Force Giant Coloring Book Cover Illustration by Will Brown and Interior Illustration by David Aronson with Production Materials Group of 34 (Stoneway, 1986). From the Stoneway library of giant coloring books comes Combat Force, featuring an original story and characters. Stoneway, like Parkes Run before them, created oversized coloring books featuring both licensed characters as well as original ones like this book, which were sold in newsstands and on street corners in New York City. This cover was illustrated by Will Brown who created several covers for giant coloring book that featured original stories by Stoneway in the 1980s. The interior pages have been illustrated by David Aronson, not to be confused with the Boston Expressionist by the same name, David (Wolf) Aronson began work as a freelance illustrator out of Philadelphia in the late 1980s. The cover illustration has been hand-painted in gouache to an image area of 17" x 22" on artboard measuring approximately 20" x 24.5". The nearly complete set of 23 original interior lineart illustrations are present, missing only the title page which would typically be composed of photostats. Each page has been hand-inked on heavy illustration boards trimmed to 10.5" x 13", with image areas blocked in blue pencil to 8.5" x 11" and pasted-on captions beneath. The production materials include: photocopies of 3 versions of the script, a hand-written letter from Aronson with 10.5" x 13" sample page sketch, a full photocopy set of Aronson's roughs for the book, 2 early rough cover sketches measuring 11" x 14" and 18.75" x 23" which have been folded, the hand-inked mechanical for the cover title with an accompanying hand-colored print, and a 19" x 24.5" Chromalin film printer's proof of the completed cover. With typical handling and edge wear including pinholes, slight smudging/staining to some of the artboards, and creasing/small tears to the production materials, this expansive collection is in Good to Very Good condition.From the Samuel Lowe Company Archives.
