Description

Keith Temple If Liberty Is To Defend Her Torch Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (New Orleans Times-Picayune, 1940s). A bold example of one of the most fascinating careers in editorial cartooning: Australian-born Temple (1899-1980) recovered in New Orleans after World War I from battle wounds sustained with the Australian Imperial Forces. He remained in the States to become a journalist-artist (1920s-60s) and then a historically inclined scenic painter. This example of his unambiguous work depicts the Statue of Liberty leading the Allied charge against the encroaching Axis Powers. Ink and crayon over graphite on pebble-grain Coquille board. Image area of 10.5" x 12.5". Age-toning is conspicuous but uniform. Very Good condition.
