Alan Kupperberg Captain America #271 Unpublished Splash Page 1 Pencils Original Art (Marvel, 1982). "The Mystery of Mr. X" runs deeper than you might think. Featured here is an un-inked splash page by Kupperberg, nearly identical to the published version and another penciled iteration. In the final print, Steve Rogers was nudged back into the doorway, Bernie Rosenthal was slightly turned, and the TV Guide with Ronald Reagan on the cover wound up on the floor. Why this earlier version wasn't used remains a Marvel mystery befitting its title. Rendered in pure graphite on Marvel Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15".
