Description
Eugene Hughes Battle Cry #10 Story Page 1 Original Art (Stanley Morse Publ., 1954). War-hero comics proliferated during the post-WWII period, even as the parallel genre of superhero comics dwindled from its heyday of Axis-buster dominance. Many comic-book readers were young soldiers, after all, and during the Korean War -- this issue went on sale in late 1953 -- they enjoyed reading about uniformed men like themselves. One such ordinary-guy hero was the Morse company's recurring character, Pvt. Ike, who is featured in this sequence about a reluctant draftee. Hughes captures well the vulnerable humanity of the characters and their tense situation. Pvt. Ike appeared in seven issues of Battle Cry during 1953-1955. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12" x 18". Very Good condition, with age-toning.Lookup the Comic Book in our Guide
