Description

John Hassall Fairy Tales from Wonderland and and Emilio Boix Biblioteca Especial para Niños Group of 2 Original Art (1938-1944). Difficult to imagine two kid-stuff artists more un-alike: Englishman Hassall dealt in elegant fantasies as a preeminent illustrator of the Bros. Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Barcelona-based Boix built a long-running Biblioteca Especial para Niños (Special Library for Children) around a chronic feud between Hipo (a Disneyfied hippopotamus) and Don Trompa (an elephant) -- provoked by two troublemaking monkeys. The drastically different approaches make for an interesting combination, here. The Boix contains color-key markings on the reverse. Ink and various additional media over graphite on varied weights of Bristol board. Image areas, 9" x 15" to 7" x 9". Moderate to extreme age-toning; intact, with the occasional ragged edge. Average Very Good condition. From the Allan Holtz Collection.
