Phil Davis Mandrake the Magician Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-31-59 (King Features Syndicate, 1959). A neanderthal-like robot conveys the tale of his masters coming to Earth in the prehistoric age and creating him to leave behind as a watcher to keep an eye on the planet over many centuries for signs of intelligent life. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of approximately 21" x 14". Lightly toned, with a residue stained paste-up logo and editorial markings.
