Description

"Cartoon Modern" Television Commercial Concept/Preliminary Animation Drawings Group of 99 (Various Studios, c. 1950s-early '60s). Fans of the animation style known as Cartoon Modern, here's a treasure trove of artwork for you! This lot includes roughly 100 pieces of preliminary, storyboard, and concept drawings for such diverse products as Coca-Cola and other soft drinks; Parodi Cigars; classified telephone directories; automotive products and repair; Lysol; cleaning goods and other household supplies; Lorna Doone cookies; Johnson's Wax; RCA television repair products; even Civil Defense and much, much more. There are lots of great cartoon characters, including a few you will recognize, like Fearless Fosdick, who pitched for Wildroot hair cream; a familiar-looking tiger (Tony?); Sad Sack; plus plenty of great 1950s-style human characters of all kinds. Although UPA is the studio most closely associated with Cartoon Modern, there was also Playhouse Pictures, John Sutherland Productions, Ray Patin Productions, even major studios from Terrytoons to Walt Disney producing work like this. The art in this group is primarily in graphite and red pencil, although a few have added color penciling, with most on animation paper, 12 field and pan. There are some sequenced drawings too. An amazing and historic lot! In overall Good condition with handling and edge wear, and some minor staining.
