Description

Ed Dodd Back Home Again Daily Comics Panel Original Art Group of 6 (United Feature Syndicate, 1938-39). Georgia-born Dodd was already working as a rancher and environmentalist in Wyoming when he developed Back Home Again as a nostalgic return to his small-town Southern origins. In Back Home Again, Dodd introduced a featured character named Archie Andrews -- no kin to Bob Montana's famous Archie character, but a young-married family man. Dodd's Archie Andrews figures in two of these selections (5-31-38 and 6-14-38). The additional selections are dated 4-22-38, 6-1-38, 9-3-38, and 5-19-39, with recurring characters including an African-American child called Doodlebug, affectionately modeled after Little Rascals movie comedian Matthew "Stymie" beard. Back Home Again pre-dates Dodd's more famous nature strip, Mark Trail, by 16 years. A patent influenced is J.R. Williams' long-running Out Our Way. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, approximately 11.75" x 12". Average Very Good condition, with varied degrees of age-toning and handling wear.
From the Bobby G. Murphy Collection.
