Description

Walter Berndt Smitty Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-3-68 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1968). Berndt's chronic taste for experimentation led him to keep developing the humorous and dramatic possibilities of Smitty, which he had introduced in 1922. This episode from 1968 finds office worker Augustus "Smitty" Smith worrying over financial responsibilities -- a suspenseful situation, with an atmospheric rainy-night setting. This surge of creative energy led to Berndt's selection as a Reuben Award recipient by the National Cartoonists Society in 1969. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 20" x 6". Light toning, marginal handling wear. Very Good condition.

More Information: Note: The Reuben Award is named after pioneering cartoonist Rube Goldberg.
