Description

Dick Ayers and Vince Colletta Giant-Size Kid Colt #3 Story Pages Original Art Group of 8 (Marvel, 1975). Here is a generous batch of pages from a pivotal story in the gradual, instinctive development of a cohesive Marvel Universe: Marvel had more Ghost Rider characters than it could handle. The publisher had appropriated Dick Ayers' original horror-Western character by that name -- a lapsed 1940s-1950s trademark of the Magazine Enterprises brand -- for a new look-alike Ghost Rider series (eerie but non-horrific), dating from 1967. Upon the introduction of yet another Ghost Rider (alias Johnny Blaze) in 1972 for a modern-day supernatural series, Marvel back-pedaled to rechristen its Western Ghost Rider as the Night Rider. That version is the one depicted here in a pairing with Marvel's Kid Colt (né Blaine Colt). Colt is gravely wounded in a gambling fracas, and schoolteacher Carter Slade goes into vengeful action as the Night Rider. The pages are numbered 1-3, 6-7, and 9-11. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 15". Moderate age-toning and handling wear throughout, with marginal staining, editorial notations, and scattered patches of adhesive residue. Average Very Good condition.
