Description

Harry J. Tuthill The Bungle Family Hand-Tinted Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-2-26 (H.J. Tuthill & McClure Syndicate, 1926). Hapless George Bungle experiences a year of torment after a streetcar wrecks his automobile -- and yes, the settlement takes that long, one month per panel, and George's compensation keeps dwindling. Naturalistic melodrama, leavened with Tuthill's characteristic ironic wit. A grand example of one of the most sarcastic and fatalistic features in the history of comics. Reverse contains a note to the syndicate from the artist. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, tinted in watercolors. Image area, 22" x 27.5". Age-toning overall, scattered pin-punctures, some soiling, creasing, and barked edges/corners. The art is in Good condition.
