Description

John Romita Jr. - KISS Illustrations Original Art Group of 2 Signed by Stan Lee and KISS (1978). Legendary rock band KISS didn't just appear in Marvel, they were canonized. The group was immortalized in Marvel Comics Super Special #1 (1977) and Marvel Super Special #5 (1978), with the first issue becoming infamous for mixing the band's own blood into the printer's ink. Comic-book mythmaking doesn't get much more metal than that. A young John Romita Jr. handled the pencils for Issue #5, and this pair of illustrations dates from that same year, capturing all four members -- Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss -- at the height of their larger-than-life powers. The horizontal group shot even mirrors Romita Jr.'s opening credits page from the comic. And as if the pedigree weren't already legendary, both pieces are signed by all four members of KISS, along with none other than Stan Lee himself! Rendered in graphite on Bristol boards with image areas of 10.5" x 16.25" and 14.75" x 10.75". Toning, with frame shadow, crease lines through image areas, light marginal staining, and minor handling wear. Signed and dated by Romita Jr. at the bottom of each page. Overall, in Very Good condition.
