Description

Dave Sheridan My Songs Are Merely Dreams... Partial Story Original Art Group of 3 (1979). This brilliant lyrical narrative from Underground Comix mainstay Sheridan picks up with a transitional narration, indicating that an introductory page may be missing: "During one experiment, we ... [allowed] the subjects to listen to music... Here we illustrate the ... marijuana psychedelic experience." A title panel quotes from Donovan Leitch's 1966 song, "Celeste" -- "My songs are merely dreams visiting my mind." Sheridan proceeds to draw various bizarre scenic vignettes, accompanied by lyrics from such such psych-era rock artists as Jefferson Airplane, the Who, the Rolling Stones, Pearls before Swine, and Hoyt Axton. The free-association narrative itself conveys a dreamlike intensity. One page contains a prominent element of nudity, illustrating the Stones' "She's a Rainbow." No publishing pedigree is documented. Sheridan is best known as the originator of the Underground characters Dealer McDope and the Leather Nun, and as a crossover collaborator on Gilbert Shelton's Freak Bros. series. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with image areas ranging from 9" x 13.5 to 10" x 15.5". Excellent condition.
