Description

Art Huhta Dinky Dinkerton, Secret Agent 6 & 7/8 Consecutive Daily Comic Strips Original Art Group of 6 (Jones Syndicate, 1941). As a 2010s rediscovery of the Web magazine Screwball, Huhta's Dinky Dinkerton has been hailed as "a Marx Bros. movie on paper" and an anticipation of Harvey Kurtzman's MAD. Goofy crimebuster Dinkerton's helper, Sniffy, is on the case of "The Mystery of the Missing Escort" in this concentration of weekday episodes, dated 1-20 through 1-25. A formal year-date is missing from the strip's copyright bug, but the dates would coincide with Dinky's third year of syndication, 1941. The title is a riff on the historic Pinkerton Detective Agency. Huhta's drawing style reflects the 1920s-1930s tradition of Elzie Segar's Popeye and George Swanson and C.D. Small's respective turns on Salesman Sam. Ink over graphite on age-toned Bristol board, with an image area of 21.5" x 5.75". Very Good condition.
