Description

The Unbearable Bear Mrs. Bear and Fox Burglar Animation Drawing (Warner Brothers, 1943). "Why Henry, you shouldn't have. Just what I always wanted, a genuine fox fur!" Awoken from her sleepwalking stupor by a crack on the head, Mrs. Bear is surprised to find her shoulders adorned with authentic fox "fur" in this original animation drawing from the 1943 Chuck Jones-directed theatrical short The Unbearable Bear. This short featured the iconic voice talents of Mel Blanc for both Henry Bear and the Fox Burglar, and also served as June Foray's first Warner Bros cartoon as Mrs. Bear, though she wouldn't become a permanent presence until over a decade later around 1955. Bleary-eyed Mrs. Bear can be spotted wearing the unconscious Fox Burglar near the 7:05 mark of the short when viewed online, just before "That's all Folks!" scrolls across the screen. The pair have been rendered in graphite and colored pencil to a combined character size of 5.5" x 7.5" on the 12 field 2-peghole animation paper which includes production codes in the lower right corner. Any and all production art from a World War II-era Warner Bros cartoon is considered scarce! With handling and edge wear including age-related toning, reinforcement of the pegholes, remaining tape, and some small stains and tears/holes away from the image, overall this 80-year-old drawing is in Fair to Good condition.
