Description

Leonard Starr Little Orphan Annie Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 3 (Tribune Media, 1988). Starr is by nature a more a realistic artist than Annie's originator, Harold Gray, and so it is remarkable to catch Starr following Gray's more stylized approach to cartooning. Starr's hitch on Annie represents an attempt to reclaim the tone and visual flair that Gray had achieved during 1924-1968. Dates are 2-13-88, 2-15-88, and 2-16-88, all set in a coastal area near a mysterious lighthouse. Ink over graphite. Image area, 12" x 4". There is light toning along the edges, with a push-pin puncture in each upper margin. Otherwise in Excellent condition.
