Description

Jolly Green Giant Lil' Sprout and Farmer Television Commercial Production Cel (Leo Burnett, c. 1980s). Here is a rare and charming production cel from a classic Jolly Green Giant television commercial for canned green beans, capturing a moment from the iconic advertising legacy that began in the 1930s. In 1935, young copywriter Leo Burnett reimagined the Green Giant-trading his bearskin for a leafy suit, adding a broad smile, and coining the now-famous moniker "Jolly." The Giant debuted on television in 1954 and became instantly recognizable thanks to Elmer Dresslar Jr.'s deep-voiced "Ho, ho, ho," introduced in 1961. This delightful two-cel setup features the Lil' Sprout character, introduced in 1973 as the Giant's eager apprentice and a symbol of young consumers, standing beside a green bean farmer. The Jolly Green Giant's massive hand enters the frame from the top right, reinforcing his towering presence. The cels are hand-inked and hand-painted on standard 12-field acetate, paired with a background print. A mixed-media image of the Giant is affixed to the bottom cel. A rare piece of advertising art history, it is in Very Good condition.
