Description

Donald's Garden Donald Duck and Watermelons Animation Drawing Sequence of 7 (Walt Disney, 1942). Donald's prize-winning melon patch is too great a temptation for a hungry gopher in this World War II-era short. It was directed by Dick Lundy, and released on 5/12/1942. Here's an original sequence of eight 12 field animation drawings, five of which feature Donald, while the rest show some of his watermelon crop. We see the string of melons as they go past (drawing #25A, noted in the lower right) at the 6:18 mark; Donald's prone position comes a second later (drawing #29). He leaps at the last melon going down the gopher hole (drawing #1) at the 6:24 mark, grabbing the melon two seconds later (drawing #41), getting pulled in at the 6:26 mark (drawings #17 and 50). The final drawing (#57A) is the dust cloud seen at the 6:27 mark. Go get 'em, Donald! These are great drawings, done in graphite with green and red pencil highlights. Donald's largest image measures approximately 6" x 2.25" (#29). The art is in Good to Very Good condition with handling and edge wear, plus some light age-related paper toning.
