Description

There Auto Be a Law Original Master Production Background by Richard Thomas (Warner Bros. 1953). This exquisite vintage production background from the 1953 animated short There Auto Be a Law is a masterful piece of art created by the esteemed Richard Thomas, a veteran background artist with a prolific career spanning 50 years and over 400 screen credits. Thomas, renowned for his work at Warner Bros. under legendary animators such as Bob Clampett, Frank Tashlin, and Robert McKimson, also contributed to iconic series like The Flintstones and The Jetsons. This particular screen-used Master background was hand-painted in gouache on a 12 field-size background board. It depicts a humorous scene integral to the documentary-style cartoon, which explores the development of the automobile in America and its comedic impact on society, traffic, and urban design. This background specifically features a witty reminder to drivers about a toll cost of only 25 cents, adding a playful element to the narrative. The background is presented in Good condition, with some edge wear noted on the right and left borders, highlighting its authenticity and historical value. This piece not only captures a slice of animation history but also serves as a vivid representation of mid-20th-century American culture and transportation.
