Description

Robin Hoodlum Pair of Hand-Painted Background Color Keys (UPA, 1948). These exquisite background color keys from UPA's first Columbia short offer a glimpse into the atmospheric depths of the castle dungeon, depicted in varying lighting situations. Created with gouache on 10.5" x 4" board, these color keys serve as visual guides to understand the interplay of light and shadow in different scenes. These paintings are most likely by either Paul Julian, the short's background artist, of Bob Cannon, listed as Character Designer; each key captures the essence of the dungeon's ambiance, from the eerie glow of torchlight to the dimness of moonlit shadows. As essential tools in pre-production, these color keys not only inform the artistic direction but also shape the mood and atmosphere of the film. Given the rarity of such artifacts, these keys are prized possessions for collectors, offering a unique insight into the creative process behind Disney's timeless animated classic. Despite minor imperfections like staining, edge, and surface wear with some paint chipping, these color keys, in Good condition, remain a cherished reminder of the film's enduring legacy and artistic achievement.

More Information: EDIT: Changed description to Robin Hoodlum (UPA, 1948) instead of Robin Hood (Walt Disney, 1973)
