Description
Golden Boy Ayuko Hayamizu Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background and Animation Drawing Group of 3 (A.P.P.P., 1996). During Episode 4 of the Golden Boy series of OVAs, Ayuko Hayamizu, a professional swimmer, former Olympic athlete, and owner of the swimming school that Kintaro Oe desires to work at, is approached by our protagonist offering his services as a teacher. After Kintaro shows his poor swimming skills, Ayuko rejects him, but Kintaro will not let this opportunity slide and proposes a competition. After a month of training, if he wins, they have to hire him, and if he loses, he will work for a whole year completely free. Starting at the 12:34 mark of the fourth episode of Golden Boy, Ayuko Hayamizu is seen in this excellent pan cel setup after her late-night training swimming laps. This stunning image of the swimming coach by the moonlight measures a staggering image size of 11.25" x 3" on the pan size hand-painted production cel numbered A1-E- on the top right corner, making full display of her slim figure. The setup also presents a foreground cel, and a background cel, completing the context for the pool scene by nighttime. The background cel has the floor rendered with gouache on background board attached to the cel. This sensational setup is accompanied by this scene's original Key Master background, a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of animation production rendered in gouache on background board measuring 12.5" x 16.25" and numbered 144 in the top right corner. With a pin-up like feel, this extraordinary piece is alluring on its own merits, and the fact that it was used as part of the production for this hilarious and provocative series adds to the appeal of this marvelous Key Master setup! This lot includes two animation drawings rendered in graphite; one also presents tan, red, blue, yellow, and green pencils on pan-sized animation paper, and the other shows blue and yellow pencils. As a bonus, the lot comes with an exposure sheet (a tool used for planning sequences and give special instruction to the photographer) of this sequence. The layout drawing has the scene planed out comprehensively, rendered with graphite with orange, green, and blue pencils. The layout drawing and one of the animation drawings are comprised of two paper sheets taped together from behind, with the layout drawing showing some toning on the taped area. The layout drawing presents some scoring with a stipe of paper partially cut out of the paper on top left edge of the drawing, and a small piece lifted on the top right corner. The setup presents very light surface scratches that don't affect the art, and some toned tape residue on the background cel and the Key Master background.
