Description

Beauty and the Beast Belle and Beast Storyboard Art Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1991). "Take me instead!" pleads Belle, after she discovers that the Beast has imprisoned her father in his dungeon. The Beast, though vicious, is awed by Belle's sacrificial request, and he allows her to take her father's place. This pivotal scene in the 1991 Walt Disney feature film Beauty and the Beast is captured wonderfully in this pair of storyboards. The first storyboard depicts Belle in the moment which can be found at about the 23:44 mark of the film, as Belle, still wearing her cloak from her journey, begs Beast to let her father go. This drawing is paired with an expressive storyboard also from the early scenes of the film, possibly at about the 25:58 mark. The two wonderfully dramatic storyboards are rendered with graphite on paper. Belle's board measures about 8.5" x 4.5", and Beast's measures about 10" x 5.5". Story artists for this film included Chris Sanders, Brenda Chapman, Joe Ranft, Kelly Asbury, and Tom Ellery. The two storyboards are in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear, including pinholes in their upper corners from production use.
