Description

The Little Mermaid Shore and Castle Concept Art (Walt Disney, c. 1989). This beautiful concept painting depicts the shoreline where Ariel washes up after getting legs, with Eric's castle in the distance. The stunning piece has a darker tone than much of the film, giving it an air of mystery. The Little Mermaid is one of the most beloved Walt Disney animated feature films from the Disney Renaissance, although its early development dates all the way back to the late 1930s, when Walt Disney planned to animate the story for a Hans Christian Andersen package film. The Little Mermaid breathed life back into Disney Feature Animation, starting the Disney Renaissance and paving the way for the next few decades of successful Disney films. This painting is rendered with gouache on 15.5" x 11.5" illustration board, with an image area of 14.75" x 8". The piece is in Very Good condition, with handling and edge wear, some jagged border edges, and minor scuffing.
