Description

Sleeping Beauty Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather Rough Layout Drawing by Disney Legend Frank Thomas (Walt Disney, 1959). "You really think we can?" "If humans can do it, so can we." The three good fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, hatch a plan to keep Princess Aurora safe and hidden from Maleficent disguised as humans. They're almost ready to begin their role as her aunts as presented in the original 16 field rough layout drawing created by Disney Legend and one of Walt's "Nine Old Men" Frank Thomas (1912 - 2004) for about 14:04 in the film while Flora assures the others they can raise a human child. Thomas was a graduate of both Stanford and Chouinard Art Institute and joined Disney in 1934 where he started on Mickey Mouse shorts and rose to work on almost 20 full-length animated features, giving characters like the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, Lady, and Tramp unforgettable personalities. Layouts are meant to determine where the characters and other elements in a scene will be, and Thomas still took the time to give each character a distinct expression in the 15.25'' x 11'' drawing which has been loosely rendered in red and blue pencil. The page is noted 3 in the lower right and was originally held in Thomas's personal archive. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, superficial surface wrinkles, and minor corner creasing, overall these aunts-to-be are in Very Good condition.
From the Disney Legend Inductee Andreas Deja Collection.
