Description
Little Man of Disneyland Mickey Mouse Club Book Double-Page Interior Illustrations by Dick Kelsey Original Art plus Published Book Group of 5 (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1955). Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse meet Patrick Begorra, a Leprechaun who lives in a tiny house within a tree, right where Disneyland is about to be built in this children's storybook. This Mickey Mouse Club book (later reissued as a Little Golden Book) was an introduction to Walt Disney's exciting new theme park. The book was illustrated by Dick Kelsey (1905 - 1987), a Disney Animation art director, theme park designer (Disneyland/Magic Mountain) and a noted children's book illustrator. This book was so popular that a small Leprechaun house was installed in the roots of a tree within the Jungle Cruise and later moved to a tree by the Indiana Jones Adventure. The art is painted in gouache on illustration board measuring 16" x 11", showcasing Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and the Leprechaun, Patrick Begorra. The artboards are for two-page spreads, all including the original text blocks pasted in position. The pages include 4-5 with Donald, Goofy, and Pluto with Patrick; pages 6-7 with Donald and Patrick; pages 8-9 with Donald, Mickey, and Patrick; and pages 14-15 with Goofy, Mickey, Donald, and Patrick. Each double-page illustration is matted with an acetate window and opening of 13" x 8.5" and an overall mat size of 19.25" x 14.75". A second-printing "B" copy of the book is included. The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.Auction Info
