Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Pair of Original Sally and Dr. Finkelstein Storyboards by Jorgen Klubien (Walt Disney, 1993). Pair of outstanding original storyboards from Tim Burton's stop-motion musical dark-fantasy romance The Nightmare Before Christmas, depicting Sally's daring bid for freedom from Dr. Finkelstein-culminating in her arm popping off as she slips his grasp. Drawn in ink and marker on 5.5" x 8.5" paper by renowned story artist Jorgen Klubien (each signed on the reverse), the boards crisply stage the struggle: Finkelstein's cranial clamp and wheelchair silhouette countered by Sally's quick wits and stitched limbs, composed for maximum graphic clarity and screen readability. Storyboards like these pre-visualize shot size, camera angle, eyelines, and character blocking-a production discipline refined at Walt Disney Studios since the early 1930s and indispensable to stop-motion planning. Sally, the intelligent rag-doll who longs for independence (voiced by Catherine O'Hara), and Dr. Finkelstein, the possessive mad scientist who created her (voiced by the late William Hickey), are among the film's most compelling foils; these panels capture their tension in two concise, cinematic beats. Klubien-a Danish-American CalArts alum-contributed to The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and The Lion King (1994), later shaping Pixar's A Bug's Life and Cars.
