Description
Return to Never Land Jolly Roger Key Master Background with Overlay Cel, Thumbnail Layout Drawing, and Animation Folder - Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 2002). An outstanding Key Master background from Walt Disney's Return to Never Land, this background captures the deck of Captain Hook's Jolly Roger in rich detail. The original background measures 16.5" x 12" and is hand-painted in gouache on background board, accompanied by a hand-painted overlay cel that adds the ship's rigging for dimensional depth. Two layouts accompany the piece: an original 4.5" x 2" thumbnail sketch in graphite mounted to a sheet of 16-field animation paper, and a printed layout that isolates the composition's center. The original Walt Disney Animation Australia production folder is also included, preserving studio provenance. Backgrounds for the film were hand-painted by a team supervised by Kathy Altieri, with artists including Greg Drolette, Natalie Franscioni-Karp, Dick Heichberger, Jeffrey Richards, Ric Sluiter, Robert E. Stanton, Lucy Tanashian, and Serge Michaels. Together they evoke weathered planks, ropes and rigging, looming masts, and a canon worthy of Hook's infamous vessel. A rare find for collectors-especially anyone seeking a perfect setting for a Peter Pan production cel to complete a display-ready setup.
