Description
Back to Neverland Robin Williams and Captain Hook Production Cel with Color Key Production Print Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1989). "Time to play that exciting new game, 'You Bet Your Hook'! That's right. Our contestant is a pirate; he's also a villain. Let's welcome him, please." From the live-action/animated short Back to Neverland, we have in this lot a rare hand-painted production cel featuring the new Lost Boy, Robin Williams, facing the heinous Captain Hook. This fantastic hybrid production was played inside the former Disney's Hollywood Studios attraction "Magic of Disney Animation," featuring Robin Williams and newsman Walter Cronkite touring the Disney Studio lot. Famously, Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998) created the background color keys for this short. O'Connor is known for his work on various momentous Disney productions like Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan, as well as for his renowned work as art director of Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom. This lot includes two 17" x 11" studio-printed sheets showing O'Connor's color keys. Showing prime images of both characters in full-figure as they appear at the 7:16 mark, this 16-field cel shows the floating Robin Williams measuring 2" x 2.25" while the confused Captain Hook shows a figure size of 4.25" x 5.75". The cel bears a Walt Disney Company stamp in the bottom left corner and is featured on a high-quality printed background. The studio-printed color key sheets show small tears on the edges, pinholes on the top corners, with one of them also showing scribbles on the left margin and a small piece missing from the bottom right corner. The cel is shown on a 20.5" x 17.25" mat with a 15.5" x 12" opening, sold as is. Overall, the lot shows light handling and edge wear from production. Both studio-printed copies are in Good condition. The cel is in Very Good condition. From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
