Description

Alaska Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Animation Drawing (Universal/Walter Lantz, 1930). After Walt Disney lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1928, the popular cartoon series was continued by Charles Mintz (who "stole" several Disney animators in the process), and eventually by Walter Lantz. Over the course of 194 total shorts, he sported several different looks. This is a rare early original studio animation drawing of Oswald from the 1930 short Alaska. He's shown here in his second look, where he gained white gloves, shoes, and shorter ears. Walter Lantz went on to produce/direct 142 Oswald shorts. Some of the animators who worked on these early Oswald cartoons include Tex Avery, Ray Abrams, Clyde Geronimi, and Pinto Colvig. This is an outstanding Lantz Oswald animation drawing, with a nice full figure image size of 2.5", hand-drawn in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper. The piece exhibits age-related toning and smudging. Good condition.
