Description
Doug "Doug is Quailman" and "I, Rubbersuit" Production Cel Pair (Nickelodeon/ABC, 1991/99). "Freeze, villain! Prepare to be transported beyond Pluto!" Quailman defends the city against evil in this pair of original production cels from episodes that span both eras of Jim Jinkins' beloved Nicktoon, Doug, with Season One's "Doug is Quailman" and Season Seven's "I, Rubbersuit". Premiering on August 11, 1991, this series became one of the first original Nicktoons, however Nickelodeon's 1994 budget freeze led to Doug's temporary cancellation until the series was picked up by Disney. Brand Spanking New! Doug debuted in early 1996 with new episodes airing on ABC, defining the two eras of the series. "Doug is Quailman" debuted in the first season on November 24, 1991, and "I, Rubbersuit" aired during the final season on May 29, 1999, nearly bookending Quailman's adventures within the series. The cel from Season One's episode, which has been signed by Jinkins, is uniquely designed as if it were a title card for the Quailman story Doug is playing out in his imagination. The hand-painted text has an image area of 11.5" x 7.25" and can be spotted within the first minute before the episode's true title card with the iconic light switch motif. The cel from "I, Rubbersuit" features 1.75" tall Quailman opposite a reprisal of the towering Klotzilla (a monstrous version of school bully Roger Klotz), and can be spotted near the 19:10 timestamp. This multilayer cel features the duo sharing a combined image area of 8.5" x 8.25". Both cels bear production codes along their lower edges and have been placed on print backgrounds for display purposes; a Jim Jinkins CoA is included. With typical handling and edge wear including minor areas of paint/linework wear, overall this super hero pairing is in Very Good condition.From the Jim Jinkins Collection - Creator of Nickelodeon's Doug.
