Description

African Diary RARE Vintage Goofy Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1945). Included in this lot is a rare vintage production cel featuring Goofy from Walt Disney's 1945 short African Diary, directed by Jack Kinney and produced by Walt Disney. Voiced by Pinto Colvig, Goofy embarks on a safari spoof where the "everyman adventurer" collides with outsized wildlife and outsized luck. This hand-inked, hand-painted character image (approximately 8" x 4.5") is executed on a 12-field acetate and presents a terrific early moment from the film-around the 1:20 timestamp-as Goofy arrives in Africa, smoking a pipe and brimming with confidence before the chaos to come. African Diary riffs on earlier Goofy exploits like Tiger Trouble, escalating the gags from bath-time hippo hijinks to a rhino charge tipped off by a stool-pigeon bird. The cel's expressive line and saturated palette capture classic mid-'40s Disney styling: elastic pose, crisp contour, and a clean paint stack that reads beautifully. Professionally matted to 16.5" x 13.5", this production-used artifact showcases the studio's peak hand-ink and paint craftsmanship and Goofy's timeless comedy persona. A standout piece for Golden Age Disney collectors and a charming snapshot of the Goof at his globe-trotting best. In Very Good condition.
